Rep. Triston Cole visits Elk Rapids

There was a good turnout on Feb. 13 in Elk Rapids to meet with Rep. Triston Cole. He gave a good Power Point presentation about his activities since taking office and seemed to be listening to everyone. However, when asked about funding Planned Parenthood, he said he is in favor of defunding it, even when pressed on women’s health issues. Then he proudly showed his recent rating as the second most conservative representative in the State House. On a positive note, he is committed to talking to all the members of his district and especially appreciates hand written notes.

Nov. 4 Election Day

The countdown is on for the final days before the election.  Now is the time to talk to your neighbors and tell them why they need to vote the Democratic ticket.  You also need to emphasize the importance of the Supreme Court race.  There are three openings and you need to vote for Thomas, Murphy, and Bernstein, because the lame duck session of our state legislators wants to change the way Michigan’s electoral votes are cast.  They can change the law to match the redistricting so that the popular vote would not matter.  If that happens, it will be challenged in the courts so we need Thomas, Murphy and Bernstein to support our democratic way.

Antrim Dems endorse the following candidates:

Gary Peters – U.S. Senate

Jerry Cannon – U.S. 1st Congresssional District

Mark Schauer – Governor

Lisa Brown — Lt. Governor

Mark Totten – Attorney General

Godfrey Dillard — Secretary of State

Dr. Phil Bellfy – 37th Senate District

Jay Calo – 105th House District

Deborah Thomas – State Supreme Court (partial term)*

When Fracking Comes to Town: LIVING IN GASLAND

Want to learn more about fracking?  Don’t miss this interesting first-hand account:  When Fracking Comes to Town: LIVING IN GASLAND, with former mayor of Dish TX,Calvin Tillman.

You’ll have four opportunities to hear Cal talk about his personal experiences with horizontal fracturing. Find the one nearest you and plan to be there:

Friday, August 3, 2012, 7:00 pm — Harbor Springs. Harbor Springs High School Auditorium, 500 N Spring St. With special performances by Breathe Owl Breathe and Yesway.

Saturday, August 4, 2012, 11:00 am — Gaylord. Otsego County Building Alpine Center, 800 Livingston Blvd.

Saturday, August 4, 2012, 5:00 pm — Charlevoix. Charlevoix Public Library, 200 Clinton St.

Sunday, August 5, 2012, 10:30 am — Traverse City. Horizon Books, 243 East Front St.

Cal Tillman, who describes himself as a conservative, battled to protect his town, Dish, Texas, from the devastating health and environmental effects of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) for natural gas. Hear Tillman’s story, profiled in the movie Gasland.

Tens of thousands of fracking wells are planned in Michigan. The technology is exempt from certain water protection regulations, raising concerns about the ability to assure its safety, and the health of the Great Lakes watershed.

This event is sponsored by Don’t Frack Michigan, with the Friends of the Jordan, Trout Gorillas, NMEAC, FLOW for Water, WATCH, MCWC, Food and Water Watch, North Woods Yoga, Health Awareness Center, and the Gaylord 99%.
